A visit to the Yorkshire Dales puts you firmly in tea room territory. One pops up on almost every corner – even in the middle of nowhere. There’s nothing quite like staggering off a wind-battered moor into the warm bosom of a local tea room for a good, strong brew and a hearty slice of cake.

But there is much more to the Yorkshire Dales food scene than tea and ale. The region is packed with buzzy little market towns tempting you with cheese shops, bakeries, gin distilleries, sweet shops, farmers’ markets, and more.

The local produce is incredible and there are more Michelin stars here than anywhere else in England outside London – though food is served without airs and graces here, and it’s all the better for it.
