There’s nothing quite like the discovery of a country pub, with roaring open fire, ancient oak beams, and a smiling, cheerful landlord or landlady waiting to present you with an abundant dose of local hospitality, and Dartmoor has plenty of choice where this is concerned.
Some pubs are situated in one of the communities, some are beautifully isolated, requiring some good map reading skills, or just a stroke of luck to find them, but generally there’s a likely candidate not too far away.
Nearly all of the hotels are open to non-residents, and there’s a great selection of well-loved cafes, tea rooms and restaurants waiting to be discovered too.
There are farm shops and food markets here and there, selling a great selection of excellent local produce, so for self-caterers there are fantastic opportunities to turn your kitchen into a centre of gastronomic excellence!
